In January 2023 Equity opened a branch for members living, working and visiting the East Midlands. It's purpose is to look out for our professional interests and be a collective presence for action to campaign and champion cause that matter to members in the region.
What is this new branch?The new Equity branch in the East Midlands is an important development for the union and its members in the region. It provides local representation and support for members. It is a regular meeting place to access branch officers and regional representatives who can assist members with issues such as contracts, health and safety, and employment rights. The branch also provides opportunities for members to network and engage with their peers, enabling them to share knowledge, opportunities and experiences, as well as stay informed about industry developments.
This is a brand new regional Equity branch, at the first 2 meetings in February and March 2023 a committee formed. Our first AGM was held in Nov and following nominations for the 23-25 Committee term an official committee for the branch was appointed. During 2023 ninety members registered to attend meetings either at the venue or via Zoom.
From conversations and issues raises at meetings the committee have been working with the regional organiser Ian Bayes (retired Jan 2024), Ian Manborde (appointed Nov 2023) to build relationships with local employers within the sectors dominant among the members attending meetings. Particularly vocal are Variety Artists, Audio voice over, Supporting Artists working in film & on screen, Actors, Stage Management, Theatre Directors, theatre makers and drama school graduates. The East Midlands has a 1100 strong regional membership list. If you are a seasoned professional or just out of training with a shiny new Equity membership card - everyone is welcome.
