12.30pm CST (5.30pm GMT) Coding on Camera: MR. ROBOT and Authenticity on TV with Christian Slater, Kevin Sullivan, Rami Malek, and Sam Esmail Hollywood has a long history of getting hacking laughably wrong. As the public grows savvier about the possibilities and threats that technology can pose, are we seeing its portrayal in popular culture change? The stars of MR. ROBOT, Rami Malek and Christian Slater, along with series creator Sam Esmail, will tackle these questions, discussing the realistic depiction of tech culture in USA Network’s hit series, how it serves to support the show’s storytelling, and why accuracy and authenticity matter when it comes to attracting and maintaining contemporary audiences.

How this worksThere was an invitation to watch live. After the stream closed registered audiences members could move over to a video chat room to share the experience.. The session was then made available to watch on-demand at a specified time with another video chat opportunity. Beyond the two scheduled sessions the video is now available to watch anytime.

Contact Caron at PCM to extend your audience.About - Extend The AudienceIs there a difference between viewing an activity and being in the audience? Personally I (Caron Lyon, PCM's Creative Director) feel there is a wider experience afforded to the 'audience' moniker than is experienced by the passive perceptive engendered in the conceptual notion of 'viewing.'. Perhaps the same can be said about being a spectator at a sporting event as opposed to watching the action on TV.
Why is LIVE, 'actually being there' better? People, its better because of people, even if we don't know them we are participating in a common experience, all at once.. All our senses are employed Sight, Sound, Smell, Taste and Touch. You are ACTUALLY there. What if you can't be there? "Go away and watch through a window" can feel like the sentiment of the currently provided live streamed offerings.. The technical offering (the production or event) is not where being in the audience matters. How often do you turn to the audience members sat beside you, lean in to them and whisper.... 'This is awesome' or 'This is shocking!'. Being in an audience where laughter ignites or illusions result in a collective gasp are part of why a live audience is the place to be. Discussions with questions and answers need a live audience but how key is location and geography to being live? For the performers or presenters having a live audience is what it is all about if live is what you are all about. In this era of digital broadcasting how important is the audience's experience and how important is the presence of the audience important to the performance? In the vernacular it is why we watch theatre but are shown films. Back to People... the buzz as the auditorium fills, punctuated by the hushed silence as the event starts, climaxing in the applause at the close, followed by the buzz of the bar. At conferences and conventions I know people who go just for the buzz and the meet ups staying clear of the halls of exhibitions stands, even the speakers. Its the convergence of like minded social opportunists being in the same place at the same time knowing that people who they only get the opportunity to catch up with at events will be present, SXSW is one such event. It is that opportunity to converge with like minded people that Extend The Audience is exploring. |
